The pearl of the Indian Ocean, a cross-roads of civilizations influenced by Asia, Africa and Europe, with the east coast of Africa 1100 miles to the west, India 2500 miles to the north and Australia 2500 miles to the east, right on the Tropic of Capricorn, south of the equator. It’s tropical landscape is a beautiful mix of jungle-covered mountains, waterfalls, sugar cane fields and white sand beaches. Mauritius is almost totally encircled by one of the world’s finest coral reefs that provide a perfect breeding ground for many marine species. Sharks, rays, barracuda, tuna, turtles and kingfish are regular encounters. The island’s underwater volcanic landscape provides a wonderful variety of caves and caverns as well as steep coral walls and 19th century shipwrecks. Notable dives include the Cathedral, at 35m down a steep coral encrusted wall a small entrance opens out to a huge cavern with light shafts penetrating down from the surface. Another popular dive is the Sirius, a 19th centaury British frigate bursting with marine life.

Island Diving Centre

Based at the Indian Resort. A fully equipped dive centre owned and run by Pascal Ava (PADI and CMAS instructor) and his professional team, offering a first class service, enjoyment and safety. A good choice of wonderful dive sites from 5 to 35 metres, reached between 5 and 20 minutes by boat. Turquoise seas and richly colonized coral reefs, sharks, eagle rays, barracuda, tuna, moray eel, schools of trevallie, octopus and lobster are regularly encountered.

INDIAN RESORT & SPA

Location: Set on a sandy beach in Le Morne on the southwest coast of Mauritius approximately one hour from the airport and one hour from the Capital Port Louis.

Accomodation: 265 room and suites. Standard Marine rooms have twin or kingsize beds, air-conditioning, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, safe, minibar, hairdryer, bath and shower, balcony or terrace with views towards the sea. Privilege rooms are the same as Standard but with different interior and include bath robes, beach towels, personalized products and tea/coffee making facilities. Scuba System Dive Centre

Based at the Shandrani Resort. A fully equipped PADI National Geographic dive centre with professional staff, quality equipment and personal service. A good variety of dive sites usually 12-40m and reached between 5-20 mins by boat from the hotel. Diving includes cliffs, drop-offs, wrecks, reefs and drift dives. Blue Bay, Shandrani’s Marine Park house reef is just a few minutes away and offers easy access throughout the day.
