Sitting nearly 400 miles north-east of Mauritius, almost isolated in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the secret hideaway island of Rodrigues emerges out of the distance located in the centre of a vast emerald blue lagoon. This tiny island, of volcanic origin, is just 11 miles from top to bottom and 5 miles across has a charm and beauty found very rarely anywhere in the world. Diving in Rodrigues is fairly unique, the unhurried lifestyles of the locals is transferred into the schedule of your diving with one early morning dive around 9:30 am and the second at 13:30. Over 30 dive sites, all reached within 40 minutes by boat, including superb pristine hard coral formations as good as anywhere in the world, good shoals of pelagics in the lagoon and outer reefs alive with marine life including parrotfish, unicornfish, butterflyfish, nudibranchs, giant travally and barracuda.

Bouba Diving Centre

Based at Mourouk Ebony on the beach facing the large winding channel “La Grande Passe”. Founded in 1997 by owner and centre manager Benoit de Baize, a bi-lingual NAUI instructor, who will personally show you the many dive sites on offer. 10, 12 and 13 L steel tanks, Scubapro and Beuchat equipment and Bauer compressor. The dive boat is a 9m Boston Whaler equipped with twin outboard motors, first aid kit, oxygen and GPS. Daily morning and afternoon dives to over 30 dive sites ranging from 6 to 30 metres and accessed by boat from 5 to 40 minutes. Most of the diving is outside the reef or in the channel and includes walls, caves and coral gardens.

Location: Perched on a rolling hillside that drops down to a white sandy beach and turquoise lagoon. The hotel is situated on the south-east coast of this tiny island, about half an hour’s scenic drive partly by unmade road from the airport.

Accomodation: Family run hotel with 36 comfortable air-conditioned rooms simply furnished with twin or double beds, fan, minifridge, en-suite shower & wc and terrace with deckchair and magnificent views out over the sea. Villa Oceane rooms are more spacious and located close to the beach with use of a communal plunge pool on the terrace.

Facilities: Swimming pool with sunbathing area, main restaurant and bar with an impressive terrace overlooking the pool and sea beyond, beach bar & restaurant serving meals and snacks during the day, windsurfing & kitesurfing centre, diving centre and regular evening entertainment.

Diving: Bouba Diving Centre is located on the beach in front of the hotel.
