The Diving
Zanzibar is one of the worlds newest diving locations and offers divers of all levels a destination to discover untouched reefs and marine life.
On the islands east coast the untouched reefs facing the open ocean offer a fantastic variety of marine life and many chances to encounter big oceanic fish and sharks.
Divers can have regular sightings of different species of Rays, turtles, sharks, eels and even humpback and sperm whales.
There is a huge variety of diving in Zanzibar from gentle coral slopes starting at 8m in depth and descending very slowly to around 20m, these are ideal for relaxed long dives and also offer ideal opportunities for macro pictures.
For the more advanced diver, the wall diving in Zanzibar can give you some breathtaking experiences and the perfect environment for “ big encounters” with Oceanic and Reef Shark, plus huge Stingrays, Groupers and Barracuda.
Once back up to the waters surface, it is not rare to find yourself surrounded by Dolphins which live in big groups and hunt all over the east coast.
If you want to see turtles, then diving the Barrel Sponges is for you, these are dive spots not to be missed. Dark Sponges filled amazing coloured reef on a white sandy bottom. The ideal hiding place for giant eels and the feeding ground for turtles. The white sandy bottom is home to huge Stingrays, Eaglerays and even Guitar Sharks.
