Manado scuba diving holiday offers a world class diving holiday with luxury liveaboard options. Located just a few degrees off the equator on the northern peninsula of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Manado is dominated by the peaks of two dormant volcanoes on land and a third peak which rises steeply from the sea in the centre of the bay.
Diving
Bunaken Marine Park offers steep walls covered with soft corals and sponges are suitable for divers of all levels and experience. There are over 50 dive sites in and around the 5 islands of Bunaken plus numerous shore dive sites. All dives in Bunaken are wall dive sites whilst the dive sites along the north west coast of Manado island are mainly shallow, offshore coral gardens with sandy slopes - a magnet for critters and ideal muck diving conditions. In Bunaken there are large schools of barracuda, tuna, moray eels, napoleon wrasse, sea snakes, turtles, rays and giant jacks including species of shark including hammerheads encountered at deeper depths. There are also a number of WWII wrecks.
Culture and Activities
North Sulawesi is well and truly off the tourist trail. As soon as you arrive, you notice a very local Indonesian feel with just a few hotels dotted around the coastline and in the main commercial town of Manado. Tourism is based around independent travellers. When not diving you can explore this natural island on Manado city tours, hiking and cultural excursions with trips to see the highlands, waterfalls, volcano treks or Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park. The local Indonesia cuisine is offered at the hotels. It is possible to have twin centre stays between Manado west coast and Lembeh dive locations - diving the best of this island.
