El Gouna, Red Sea and Middle East
El Gouna, on the southern Red Sea coast offers a year round diving holiday destination for all levels of diver. The place is sociable and ideal for single travellers with daily boat diving. El Gouna is approximately 20km north of Hurghada and is a purpose built desert located around a central ‘downtown’ area. Built initially around a marina concept in the early 90s it has developed into a well designed resort with a large variety of restaurants, shops, entertainment, activities and sporting options on offer.
Diving
El Gouna, like the rest of the Red Sea is an all year round destination. Air temperatures rarely fall below 22°C and reach 35+°C in the summer. This is an excellent destination for all levels with a variety of diving on offer, from deep walls & exciting drift diving to shallow reefs in sheltered waters with beautiful coral gardens and wide variety of colourful reef fish. The diving is mainly day diving trips. There are regular sightings of resident bottle nose dolphins, turtles, nudibranchs, octopus, moray, stingray and whitetip reef sharks. This is also a top wreck diving location with access to the top wreck diving sites at Sha'ab Abu Nuhas in the Straits of Gubal. Special trips can be booked in resort to the Rosalie Moeller and the Thistlegorm.
Culture and Activities
In El Gouna it is possible to enjoy a variety of activities from wakeboarding, fishing trips or even golf at the 18 hole championship golf course. Other activities on offer include tennis, yoga, horseriding, quadbiking, sailing and volleyball. An ideal location for kitesurfing and learning to kitesurf with pre-bookable packages at one of the main beaches of Mangroovy or in front of the Movenpick Hotel.
