Abu Sauatir Dive Sites - El Quseir, Red Sea and Middle East
The diving in Abu Sauatir, located just 15km north of El Qusier, is ideal for divers who want intensive diving whilst staying right on the spot. The Roots Luxury Camp offers a PADI 5* and BSAC affiliated dive resort with luxury chalets, restaurant and options for unlimited house reef diving.
From here you can explore the area. "It's like a Livaboard on Land" said one very happy Sportif client recently. Known as the 'Jewel of the Red Sea', El Quseir provides some of the very best shore based diving.
Abu Sauatir
The House Reef at Abu Sauatir is one of the regions more popular dive sites due to its easy accessibility with a sand canyon leading out to the sloping sandy bay. The protected area of the bay forms an amphitheatre for marine life with family of Squid dash, Blue Spotted rays hide under overhangs, caverns provide daytime shelter to the nocturnal Squirrel fish and reef fish of every size and colour adorn the pinnacles. Night diving is superb at Abu Sauatir and the Pharaoh Dive Camp is ideally located to make the very most of the site.
Daily diving is also offered at other shore diving sites and by both Hard Boat or Zodiak as well as day excursions to Abu Dabab, Elphinstone or the Salem Express. There are a large amount of dive sites available with a variety of shore diving, zodiac and hard boat diving. Here are just a few:
Abu Sauatir Roots Camp house reef: Easy entry bay with beautiful hard and soft corals as well as a fantastic variety of marine life from nudibranch to turtles. The red anemone at 18m is a photographers must. An excellent location for night dives.
Cathedral: Swim through sunlight filled passages before coming to the main catherdral itself. A large beautiful domed cavern filled with hundreds of Dusty Sweepers glinting in the mottled sunlight filtering through the cracks in the reef like stained glass windows.
El Moghar: Descend through the 'stargate' entry to get to the main reef. Large shoals of trevelly hang in the open while reef fish dart in and out of the reef. Great dive site for all level of diver.
Erg Lassal: This large pinnicle is covered with soft corals and is absolutely teeming with life. On the reef floor morays and rays reside, shoals of glass fish hide in the overhangs, while thousands of purple and orange Anthias surround the higher levels.
Erg Monica: One of two off shore reefs only accessible by hardboat. Amazingly colourful undulating hard coral gardens with shoals of goatfish and sweetlips. Pink and purple soft corals hang off pinnicles surrounded by harems of Golden Anthias.
Marsa Waleed: Beautiful canyon entry that twists and turns through the reef before arriving at the reef wall. Great place to see fish cleaning stations. Occasional chance to see a dugong.
Nafag Rene: Spend time gliding through this amazing cavern system that cuts through the reef. Glass fish, box fish and morays all inhabit the caverns before getting to the outer reef wall. Suitable for experienced divers only.
The Rock: Home to hundreds of clownfish and their beautiful yellow and red carpet anenomes make this site a must!. Shoals of trumpetfish, octopus and the occasional turtle make this a fantastic sight for photography.Only possible by boat or zodiac.
